In
1870, Pavel Tretyakov wrote to his friend Leo Tolstoy expressing his doubt
that it was worthwhile to continue saving the paintings of contemporary
Russian artists, whose work had no other home. Today, the Tretyakov
Gallery houses over 100,000 extraordinary masterpieces, rarely viewed in
the West.
The paintings of the Tretyakov and the vocal artistry of singer, Gary Morris come together in a rare and moving combination of classical art and modern music to tell the story of this obscure art gallery in Russia. This live concert, featuring a vocal talent that defies definition, blends with documentary and art history elements to create a unique viewing experience. The lore of such fantastic characters
and events, such as the murder of the son of Ivan the Terrible, the saving
grace of the Virgin of Vladmir Icon, the imprisonment of Princess Tarakanova
and the Texas-born vocalist Gary Morris is in a high-octane range all his own. His career in music encompasses 12 albums and sixteen Top 10 singles and five Number One hits. His performances on Broadway in "La Boheme" and as the first American to plan Jean Valjean in "Les Miserables" established his career as a powerful vocal artist. Morris enjoys continued success as a writer, actor, music publisher and record producer. Presenting Station: WYES-TV/New
Orleans, Executive Producer: Gary Morris.
